About The Ryan/Leahy-Carlin/Donelan Tree
Welcome! This family tree is a work in progress, I hope you enjoy it and consider contributing info for it. Information, stories, documentation and photos are most welcome.

This tree includes Ryan/Leahy-Carlin/Donnelan ancestors and relations, most of whom emigrated from Ireland to North America. From the early 1800s through the 1900s, they traveled from the green, misty land of druids and the mythical tribes of the Tuatha Dé Danann to new lands, hoping for the chance to build new lives. Some came to escape the Great Famine, others came looking for new opportunities.

Here you will find family from the gentle, sun-dappled hills and fertile pastures in the north of County Tipperary; from County Meath, home of Tara, ancient seat of the High Kings and birthplace of the famous, blind harper, Toirdhealbhach Ó Cearbhalláin; from lovely County Kerry which boasts the homestead of Brian Boru, one of the greatest warrior kings of Ireland; from County Limerick, dotted with ancient castles; from the lake riddled landscape of County Galway and from the busy city of Dublin in Dublin County; from County Wexford, County Mayo, County Louth, County Monaghan, County Laois and other counties and even from a few other places in the world.

IS YOUR SURNAME HERE? Please check the “List of Last Names” below to see all surnames included thus far. Clicking on the surname will take you directly to that section of the tree. Also be sure to check out the “Getting Around” section, it provides help in using the site.

PRIVACY: Relatives/researchers with access to this site may use the information to help fill gaps in their own trees with the exception of living persons. Living person’s data is restricted. Names and photos of living persons taken from this site may not be published online to any other site in such a manner that it is visible to the general public.

INFORMATION: If you have any information or stories you would like to share or if you notice any incorrect information or discrepancies, please contact me. NOTE: I am also looking for information on any Irish relatives that may have moved to or been deported to Australia by the English. Collaboration is most welcome.

SOURCES/CITATIONS: There is source material for all persons shown in this tree. Sources and citations will be added as time permits. Sources include but are not limited to family records and websites that transcribe civil, government, church and military, etc. records. These sites are included in the "Useful Links" section below.

PHOTOGRAPHS: If you have family photographs that you would like to have included, please email them to me with a description and a specific request to include them in this site. I reserve the right to crop and/or improve resolution if needed. There is a four (4) photograph limit for each person listed.

SURNAMES & DATES: I spend a lot of time researching the correct spelling of names, birth and death dates. At times they can be elusive. Censuses give only estimates, surnames change, sometimes due to errors sometimes due to personal preference. The surname Carlin, for example, used to be Carolan. It has also been spelled Carolin, all within the same family and generation in the USA. Indexed records can be subject to errors by transcribers. If you find an error and have documentation that shows a correct date or spelling of a name, please feel free to email it to me.

PLACE NAMES: The order of place names is as follows: Town/City, County, State, Country.

FIND-A-GRAVE (FAG): Find-A-Grave is a virtual online cemetery. It hosts memorials of those that have passed away. It was established in 1998 and is staffed by volunteers from all over the world and it too, is a work in progress. If you see a ‘Find a Grave No.” in the sources it means that person has a memorial on Find-A-Grave. Use the link to visit the site and view their memorial. If you don’t see a memorial for your ancestor and would like me to create one or add a description to an existing one, please let me know, I am happy to do so. If you create one yourself, please add the parents and spouse (if applicable) numbers so they are linked to their family.
